1. DJ Weekend
Since DJ got home so late, he wasn't released until the morning. The Stake President was awesome and let us join for the report on his mission. It was sweet hearing all the experiences.
The rest of the day was errands- getting new suits, garments, etc. That evening we went to Gecko Grill and saw half the ward there, which meant everyone had to say hello to our cute elder. The next day we took family pictures. We had somewhat of a time restraint, so they were pretty rushed. But we got all the important "groupings, so #winning.
That evening was Nate's eagle court of honor, so a lot of that day was getting things ready. We did take a break to eat at BJs so DJ could have his avocado egg rolls.
The court of honor went great and Nate had a lot of family and friends come- he has some good people in his circle.
Sunday was Sarah's farewell and DJ's homecoming.
Sarah did so great on her farewell, she made me cry and laugh, so that a 10/10.
Later that afternoon was DJ's homecoming. He of course did a fabulous job. He is just soaring.
Right after his talk, was a little open house/dinner with extended family.
Later that evening was Sarah's open house accompanied with even more food. Also great company of course.
2. Kel and Eric had their gender reveal!!! They are having 2 girls! :)
They had Kel's mom fill two different apple cider bottles with confetti. Eric did the first and Kel did the second. So excited and happy for them
3. Utah/Grandma's Funeral
Highlight of the funeral.
We flew Thursday Morning. Morgan's trip to AZ was cut short, but on the off hand, she had mom to help her on the flight.
When we landed, we didn't have much time before the viewing. We picked up Costa Vida real quick, checked into our hotel (room wasn't ready so had to go in another room), and then headed to the mortuary. We had a viewing with just the family first. My grandpa had the great idea of everyone sharing memories of grandma. Then we practiced our "special musical number" for the funeral.
We had a break before the public viewing, so we ran to Cutlers to pick up dinner for my grandpa and cookies for us ;)
My family of course knew no one at the viewing. Al, Nate, DJ and I claimed a good couch and mostly just talked to our cousins.
Friday we slept in pretty late and it felt SO GREAT. Well let's be honest, the early birds woke up and went to Morgans and ate breakfast. The rest of the day, we were split. Half went to do a session at the SLC temple and the rest of us stayed with Conrad. The rest of the day consisted of, Mod Pizza, Fiiz run, The Office, painting nails, then dinner with everyone at Texas Road House.
The late nighters ended the night with the new Spiderman. I thought it was more so upbeat and funny. Not as much action as the others, but I loved it!
Saturday was the day of the funeral. It was fun to hear all the stories about growing up with grandma told by her kids. That's the only positive part to funerals- the reminiscing.
My Thomas cousins (other side of the family) are attending school at BYU, and they were so sweet to come to the funeral to support us. It made my heart happy to see them.
After the burial and luncheon, we went to my grandpas to visit for a bit. He didn't really want to be alone.
We ended our time with a trip to Swig, and hanging out with our favs, the Lotts.
We landed a little late, but i was so excited and happy to see my roommates. Between all our trips, it's been over a month.
4. Week of 7/24
Jumpstart
For anyone who doesn't know, jumpstart is like orientation for incoming 7th graders. Its 5 days 8-12 and they have "classes" and then a fun activity at the end of the day. My deaf student from last year was attending and I was requested to interpret to help ease the transition (since she was comfortable and familiar with me).
The first day was crazy with the rain. I was definitely not prepared for it..
BUT, my student is usually a little hellion but she was literally so perfect. She paid attention, was nice to us, and nice to other students. I was shocked. I thought maybe she was just scared and nervous, but it lasted the whole week?? The summer did something for her. Actually it's probably because it wasn't actually academic. Just fun activities. Haha.
Since we could, I had a "team" all week. Which means another interpreter to trade off with every 30 minutes. It was fab-u-lous. She was a great team and even made me salsa at the end of the week! Holler!
D-Backs game.
We spontaneously went to a d-backs game (we later found out half the valley was also there). One of our friends snuck us down to a lower section, so that was nice! The game was pretty crummy though. They didn't do too hot.
We were all starving at the end, so we stopped at Cheba Hut on our way home.
Wednesday- Our friend, John was talking up Carolinas on Tuesday, so we had to go. It's so greasy and delicious. I could eat their refried beans on its own, they are that good. After our little dinner outing, we hit up a party for a girl in our ward. We got home early, so I went over to my friend Brent's house. It's newly furnished, so he was excited to have people over (he also has a lot of fun electronic toys).
Thursday- We went to our stake RS fitness class. Elise and Madison came with, so that was extra fun. We ended the night with making/eating cookies. We deserved it after working out, right?
Friday- We (my roommates) and I finally caught up on World of Dance. Then we went our separate ways. I went and saw spiderman with my friends. It was fun watching it (knowing what will happen) and watching everyone's faces at the end. Brent was the real MVP and snuck in all kinds of candy and got popcorn! Hoi-ya!
After the movie some of us went over to Brent's and played throwback video games. We also watched the first James Bond movie (with Daniel Craig, not the real old ones). I ended up staying way later than I should have...
Saturday- I slept in as late as I possibly could, then got lunch and got ready for Caroline's baptism.
It was in Tucson but the drive was so fun with Syd, Zach, Steph, Derrick and Kenzie. We started it off right with Circle K drinks and snacks. When we got into town, we checked out the Walton's (Syd and Zach) new house. 💕 We showed up fashionably late to the baptism (although they didn't start for another 15 minutes anyway).
It was such a great baptism. She had to do a lot to get to this point, and so it was extra sweet and special.
Sunday
Madison was speaking in our ward and Devon Thomas was giving her mission farewell. Luckily I was able to do both! They both rocked their talks, naturally. I stayed for the rest of Greenfield ward too and it was so nice not having any responsibility and just enjoying.
After church, I went to Brent's for dinner. He treated us like queens with homemade green chile enchiladas, rice, beans, soup, chips/salsa/queso, and mexican soda. He went full out. Callie and Hannah were also there and poor Brent had to put up with our girl talk.
We played Code Names after and the girls kicked our trash. Actually, they got lucky on the last round because we were kicking their trash.
